Zofran [Ondansetron ORAL] is a prescription drug indicated for the prevention of nausea and vomiting. This drug works by blocking the action of chemicals that have the ability to trigger nausea and vomiting. How to use

To prevent the occurrence of nausea in patients who are to undergo chemotherapy, this drug has to be administered 30 minutes before start of the process. To prevent nausea in patients who are to undergo radiation therapy, this drug has to be administered 1-2 hours before start of the process. To prevent nausea in patients who are to undergo surgery, the drug has to be administered 1 hour before start of surgery. This medication is to be had on an empty stomach because all the three procedures mentioned above need to be done that way.
All other drugs that have been prescribed should be administered. This drug can be administered for one or two days after chemotherapy or radiation therapy is done for up to three times a day. Proper dosing schedule as prescribed by the doctor should be followed. The doctor should be notified if the nausea and vomiting worsens.
Side Effects
Zofran [Ondansetron ORAL] may cause side effects in some patients. Common but less serious side effects of the drug are as follows:
Constipation or diarrhea
Headache
Weakness or tiredness
Drowsiness or dizziness
This drug may cause serious but unlikely side effects such as follows:
Temporary blindness or blurred vision
Trouble in breathing, slow rate of heart beat
Fainting, lightheadedness
Fever
Anxiety, shivering, agitation
Less amount of urine
A serious allergic reaction is rare, but in case it occurs, emergency medical help should be called for. Symptoms of an allergic reaction are rash, hives, itching, chest pain, swelling of the face, throat, lips and tongue, shortness of breath and redness or peeling of the skin.
Drug Interaction

phenobarbital (Luminal)

Over Dose
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. US residents can call the US national poison hotline at 1-800-222-1222. Canadian residents should call their local poison control center directly. Symptoms of overdose may include change in vision, severe constipation, severe dizziness, or irregular heartbeat.

Missed Dose
Try to take each dose at the scheduled time. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
